In Gropello Cairoli centre, a few kilometres from Pavia, you can find Villa Cantoni, birthplace of philosopher and senator of the first Italian Reign Carlo Cantoni (1840-1906).
Silent witness of gatherings, accomplice of hopes of freedom and reconstruction, this ancient mansion has hosted the encounters of prestigious people, such as Garibaldi and the Cairoli brothers, and has witnessed great passions and ideas during the Risorgimento; since 2008 it has opened its doors to the public to share its history and atmosphere.
Already present in 1760 in the Savoy real estate registry map, the villa is located in the city centre, but it’s hidden from view and surrounded by a centuries old park which fully preserves its tranquillity.
Thanks to its spaces and the convenient access through the private parking, Villa Cantoni is the perfect scenario for parties and any kind of event (weddings, communions, confirmations, anniversaries, business meetings), customizable according to any specific request. The booking of Villa Cantoni, always exclusive for the whole day, regardless from the number of participants, guarantees complete privacy.
Villa Cantoni is also a guest house with a suite for two or four people and a new wellness area, and it offers to its guests a stay full of comfort.
On the ground floor the rooms open on the outdoor patio with direct access to the garden. The patio, natural extension of the internal rooms, is the ideal place for informal buffets, aperitifs and cocktails. Every room has painted ceilings and perfectly functioning vintage fireplaces, that during winter help create a cozy and warm atmosphere.
The three living rooms, all communicating, can host up to 90 people, settled in round tables. For business lunches or dinners it is possible to set up the main living room with an imperial table for 20 people.
The room that used to be the library is used today for the celebration of civil weddings and for business conventions; on its ceiling you can find a fresco representing the Arts, as well as the crest of Gropello district. The room is also embellished by a VII century fireplace.
In the basement, you can find the ancient cellar: with its beautiful vault ceilings its the perfect place for you winter buffets with some music. The cellar already existed before the villa was built, and its origins are yet to be discovered.
On the first floor, the master bedrooms have been renovated according to vintage interior design and they are available for accommodation; they are decorated with panelled ceilings and original cotto tiled floors.
On the last floor, in what used to be the safekeeping of Cantoni correspondence (today donated to the Italian Institute for History in Naples), a wellness area has been created, equipped with sauna, turkish bath and emotional shower at a full disposal of the guests that are staying at the Villa.
